After nearly two decades of internationalization, Chinese firms have demonstrated their increasing innovation capability by leveraging global networks and domestic efforts. However, the mechanisms that facilitate innovation in Chinese firms at both the international and domestic levels remain largely understudied. This book aims to address this gap by examining innovation in China from three distinct perspectives.

Firstly, it explores the effects of Chinese-foreign linkages in innovation from the relationship and foreign ownership perspectives. By examining the interactions between Chinese and foreign firms, the book seeks to understand how these linkages contribute to innovation outcomes. Additionally, it investigates the role of foreign ownership in shaping innovation strategies and practices in Chinese firms.

Secondly, the book examines the moderating role of global networks, such as global supply chain collaboration, in understanding the relationship between competition among unregistered firms and innovation among registered firms. It seeks to understand how these networks influence the innovation processes and outcomes of Chinese firms.

Thirdly, the book delves into innovation at the domestic level, examining it from both upstream and downstream perspectives. It explores consumers' decision-making processes in innovative products and strategic choices made by domestic Chinese firms. Additionally, it considers the environmental constraints that impact product innovation in China.

Collectively, this book makes a significant contribution to the existing knowledge on innovation in China by actively investigating innovation at international and domestic levels. It seeks to understand how global networks contribute to innovation in China and how domestic Chinese firms strengthen their innovation capability. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of International Studies of Management & Organization, further emphasizing the importance and relevance of the research presented herein.
