Black Box MultiPower Fast Ethernet Media Converter

The Black Box LHC040A-R4 is a miniature Fast Ethernet media converter that extends your local network from copper to fiber with very little effort. It accepts 10 or 100 Mbps traffic on its RJ45 port and forwards that data at 100 Mbps over multimode fiber, so you can link a desktop, a switch, or an industrial controller to a distant fiber backbone without replacing existing copper hardware.

Installation is straightforward because the housing measures only 0.8 by 1.8 by 3.4 inches. The converter tucks behind a computer, under a counter, or inside a control cabinet where rack space is limited. An Auto MDI/MDI-X function selects the correct pinout automatically, so any standard Ethernet patch cable will work.

Power flexibility makes deployment even easier. Use the included external AC supply for a traditional outlet, connect an optional USB power cable when an outlet is not nearby, or slide the unit into a rack-mountable PowerTray to support several converters from one source. Once powered, the twisted-pair port negotiates between 10 and 100 Mbps on its own, ensuring a clean handshake with whichever device you plug in.
